About the Expedition

The project of the expedition puts on a trial of reaching the highest peak in Europe with the participation of people who won the fight with cancer, giving faith and hope to the others, showing them that the come-back to "normal" life, life full of passion and dreams is possible. An important aspect of the expedition is to break the taboo about cancer - tumour is still a difficult topic in our conscience.
The originator of the project is a local voyager Katarzyna Gulczyńska.
Symbolic participants will be:

• People who won the fight with cancer and by showing a good example can give hope to the other ill people that the disease can be fought
• Young people, mountain tourism supporters, who begin their own adventure with the mountains and discover not only the beauty of the nature but also the beauty of giving themselves to the others

The Honorary Patronage over the expedition was taken by The President of the City of Gdynia – mr. Wojciech Szczurek.
The expedition is going to begin on the 4th of July 2010, so that the participants are ensured of the best acclimatisation conditions and so that if the weather is conducive it will be able to attack the peak of Mont Blanc on the 12th of July. The date of the expedition converges with the lasting at that time Tour de France, in which Lance Armstrong’s attendance has been announced. Wojciech Samp – during the education in the vocational high school he starts to feel giddy and have headaches. The diagnosis displays brain tumour. An immediate surgery. A year later, during his final exams – another surgery. After the two surgeries his condition is getting worse, deficits and ailments such as leg paresis, face nerve paralysis, problems with speech and keeping balance occur. Piotr Topolski, just before taking up his first job heard the diagnosis - seminoma. This word sounded quite abstract to Piotr and his close relatives, after all he had observed that one of his testicles is enlarged before. A decision about immediate removal of the testicle is made. After the abdomen tomography it comes out that there are metastases into the lymph nodes (up to 4,5 cm big). Piotr comes through 4 cycles of chemotherapy BEP, which made the lymph nodes smaller. The doctors propose another surgery - this time removing all the enlarged lymph nodes. Piotr does not give up, fights and wins the fight with cancer. Czytaj dalej...
